On the 1st and 2nd of April there was a German Camp for Ukrainians at Frankfurt Centre. 30 Ukrainians participated in theme park, mind lecture, ice breaking, scavenger hunt throughout the two days.
The goal of the camp was to help Ukrainian refugees assimilate to a better life in Germany. It was organized by the Mriya (Dream) project team to help refugees get familiar with the language and culture.
The dance prepared by the students opened the hearts of the participants.
The camp was organized by international students and oversea volunteers. And in the morning of the first day there was the ‘Theme Park’ program based on drawing books. It was an opportunity to learn German expressions through stories. Stories included were Handsel and Gretel, Rapunzel, Little Mermaid. The groups were divide into 6 and it was a chance to learn German in a more interactive and fun manner.
The most popular story was Handsel and Gretel and they learned words such as window, living room and kitchen. And the teams had to work together to make a home out of bread, snacks and chocolate which was a chance for them to be creative.
In the red cap booth, one person had to cover their eyes and simply follow the voice of their teammates. This needed trust and communication between members so it was helpful in breaking the ice and getting to know each other. We prepared interactive activities and people found it interesting and participated well.
In the afternoon there was group study and ‘Mind Lecture’. During the ‘Mind Lecture’ pastor Chin spoke about how the Ukrainian refugee dance team Mriya overcame adversity to win the grand prize at the world dance festival in South Korea and also about the Christmas Miracle tour which happens in 40 cities across Europe. Moreover, he spoke about John 5:8 ‘rise take up thy bed and walk’ and explained that through the word one came go out with faith. Those who listened to the ‘mind lecture’ said they enjoyed learning about the strong mentality.
On the second day of the event there was scavenger hunt. Through guessing the song, charades, quiz, category games each group got closer to each other. International students and volunteers prepared these games and dances all day long. Although they felt tired, they prepared imagining the joy that they will deliver.
There was a mini awards ceremony at the end and many students expressed their gratitude.
All programs at the German camp was nice, but the various lessons and games was most fu and the dance performances were also amazing. ㅡ Maria - Participant
I met IYF on the streets. I was impressed by their dancing on the streets. I attended the Korea camp last month and wanted to participate as a volunteer for the German camp. I was happy to help the Ukrainians and was glad to meet good people. ㅡ Calota - Volunteer
As there was not much time left, I wanted to give up and I felt disappointed in myself who was not perfect. But when I took steps believing in God I saw how people opened their hearts and it was very graceful. ㅡ Overseas Volunteers – Youngeun Ahn
Getting accommodation and inviting students were tough but we were able to get a good hotel near the city centre with a week to go and many new students who did not register online came. Seeing this I remembered Genesis 2:21 how God put Adam in a deep sleep to prepare his perfect wife Eve and likewise God prepared the best camp for us. I believe God’s grace will overflow in all the events that will happen in Germany.
